Overnight temperatures plunge again but schools open for lessons

Temperatures across Northamptonshire plummeted again last night but most schools are open today.

Northamptonshire County Council worked with district and borough councils to clear so-called Priority 1 footways of snow and ice last night with gritters out again in a bid to keep the roads open.

The Snow Desk – a 24-hour-staffed control hub - continues to operate and patrols are monitoring the road network to report any problems.

Roadside grit bins continue to be replenished as required.

While most schools across Northamptonshire closed on Monday, few have announced plans to close today.

Since midnight on Sunday, Northamptonshire County Council winter maintenance crews have completed seven gritting runs across the county.

Snow ploughs were fitted to gritting lorries as heavy snow swept the region on Sunday.

Drivers are being reminded to take care while driving in snowy and icy conditions and allow more time for their journey.
