The vice-principal of Brooke Weston Academy in Corby Richard Bernard has been announced as the new headteacher of Northampton School for Boys (NSB).

Sir Michael Griffiths, the current headteacher of the school in Billing Road, is set to retire at the end of the school term.

Mr Bernard is a trained Ofsted Inspector and has been awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship.

Yvonne Edwards, NSB Chair of Governors, said: “Mr Bernard has an excellent sporting pedigree, particularly in tennis and football, and he is committed to the importance of the co-curriculum in schools, having himself set up a House system in his first school.

“He brings with him great strengths in the area of teaching and learning and whole school improvement. We are confident that he will continue to build on the strengths of Northampton School for Boys as we move into the next phase of the school’s history.

“I am sure that all the staff, students and parents will give Mr Bernard a warm welcome, and will quickly recognise the qualities that he brings to the school.”
