A new University Technical College (UTC) building in Daventry will officially open on Monday, three months after it was scheduled to be ready for students.

The new college, aimed at 14 to 19-year-olds, offers specialisms in the areas of engineering, construction and environmental sustainability.

The first intake of students started in September 2013 and, due to the fact the building in Daventry wasn’t ready, have been studying at the University of Northampton.

The college is being run by the University of Northampton is working in partnership with Moulton College, Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council.

Students in Years 12 and 13 can study a Level 3 technical qualification in either engineering or modern methods of construction, as well as a range of A/AS Level subjects.

David Edmondson, principal of Daventry UTC, said: “I am looking forward to welcoming the students to their fantastic new college.

“The building is outstanding and is testament to the hard work and dedication from all involved in making this a reality. The new building combined with the superb array of specialist equipment, exciting and integrated curriculum and wonderful staff, will provide a tremendous learning environment for current and future students.”

An Open Day will be held at the college, in Ashby Road, on Saturday, January 25 and prospective students and their families are invited to attend.
