More students getting higher A-level grades at Weston Favell Academy

The results from the school show 60 per cent of students achieved a grade B or above in their A-level courses and 41 per cent achieved a distinction in BTEC courses.

The academy has also continued to develop its relationship with the William and Mary University and Williamsburg Virginia in the USA. Four students attended the study programme during the October half term break. The programme has been successful in raising aspiration and developing independent study.

The top performing student was David Ung, who gained an A* in mathematics, an A* in further mathematics and a B in physics. He leaves the academy to study a BSc in Actuarial Science with the University of Kent.

Declan Amess, the academy’s Sixth Form President, has achieved an A* in mathematics, an A in further mathematics and a B in Physics. He has a passion for mechanical and automotive engineering and will now realise his ambition to study Mechanical Engineering (Automotive) at the University of Birmingham.

Abbey Briscombe is the academy’s top performing girl and achieved an A* in biology, an A in mathematics and a B in chemistry. Her plans are to take a gap year and apply to go to university in 2017.

Danielle Coglin has also achieved an impressive set of results gaining an A in law, a B in history, a distinction in sports science and a B in her extended project. She will now leave the academy to take up an unconditional offer to study a BA in History at the University of Birmingham.

Rachel Steele, Principal, said: “I am delighted with these examination results. They are a testament to all the hard work, dedication and commitment by students and staff at the academy. There are some amazing individual performances which should be celebrated but the most pleasing aspect of these results is that students have been rewarded for their efforts enabling them to progress to their next steps. I would like to congratulate our A-level students and wish them all continued success in their future endeavours.”

The Weston Favell Academy is one of the 30 Academies sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT).
