Police pulled over a dozy driver in Northampton who fixed a broken window with blue plastic sheeting and gaffer tape - leaving just a tiny "peep-hole" to see the wing mirror.

The driver of the white Toyota was stopped by officers in Wellingborough Road on Saturday at around noon.

Police, who seized 30 cars that day as part of a road policing operation, said it was an "interesting concept".

PC Dave Lee said the driver would likely be fined or face a court appearance for the misdemeanor.

He tweeted: "Interesting concept for this Toyota that was driving along. #PeePo."

Northamptonshire Police added: "Our central ticket office will write to him giving him various options, from a fine through to a court appearance."

It is not the first time the force has stopped Northamptonshire drivers who have been barely able to see the road. In January 2013, officers tweeted a picture of an Audi covered in thick snow except for a tiny rectangular hole to allow the driver to see through.
