A man who fled from a car crash in which a passenger was seriously injured has been arrested in Northampton.

The two-car accident happened at about 8pm just off St Andrew’s Road on the approach to Northampton railway station.

Emergency services were called by witnesses, who said the vehicles had a total of five occupants.

However, only one person, who had serious injuries, was there when paramedics arrived.

As the accident, which happened on Friday, was just inside the railway station site, British Transport Police were called and later made an arrest.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said:

“A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at a road traffic collision and driving a motor vehicle with excess alcohol in his breath.”

The arrested man has been bailed pending further enquiries until next month.

Police said the injured man has since been discharged from hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting 599 of 04/12/2015.
