A busy road in Northampton is to be closed this weekend as a set of disused railway tracks are removed and resurfacing takes place.

Works to the London Road stretch of the A508 are set to start on Wednesday (August 12) which will see just the footway closed until Friday, August 14.

The road will then be closed in its entirety over the weekend of Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, with access maintained for local residents and businesses.

As the resurfacing works continue, the road will, between Monday, August 17, and Friday, September 4, be open with temporary traffic signals on weekdays only.

On Sunday, August 23 and the following Sunday, the road will be closed only in the direction of Northampton town centre.

The electronic signs in the town will show messages advising people of the closure and Northamptonshire County Council is also set to put signs up at the site.

Diversions will be in place.
