A high street shoe retailer is set to take over a vacant unit in Northampton’s Grosvenor Centre.

Office, which describes itself as a “leading-edge fashion footwear specialist” selling both its own label and branded footwear, is set to open in the autumn in the outlet previously occupied by Menkind.

The worldwide chain stocks brands such as Adidas, Timberland and UGG, and the current nearest outlet to Northampton is at Leicester’s Fosse Park.

James Whitehill, senior fund manager at Grosvenor Centre owners Legal and General Property, said: “We’re delighted to confirm that Office will soon be joining the retail line-up at the Grosvenor Centre.

“We are confident the store will provide a modern and vibrant addition to the centre.”

Office will take up a 3,000 square ft unit on a 10-year lease.

Gadget store Menkind has now moved into the building next door.

But the shifting around of units will also create a new space for a “kiosk” on the ground floor of the Grosvenor Centre.

Centre manager John Partington, said: “The new Office will go round the back of Accessorize, creating a kiosk where Monsoon used to be.

“We have someone lined up to go in there already.”

Office was first established in 1981 as a concession in London department store Hyper Hyper.

Its name comes from the fact the firm originally displayed products on old office furniture.

Following success in the UK the chain began its overseas expansion in 2004, opening stores in Ireland, as well as in Topshop concessions across New York, Las Vegas and Chicago.
