A signal failure severely delaying trains through Northampton has been fixed - but passengers are being warned it may be some time before services return to normal.
Those travelling along the West Coast Mainline were being advised to avoid getting trains from Northampton and Long Buckby this morning after a power failure caused major disruption.
Network Rail has re-opened the line between Birmingham New St and Birmingham International, which was causing the backlog.
Trains are starting to run on the route, however a full service is not expected to be restored until mid-afternoon. People whose trains have been delayed by 30 minutes or more will be able to claim compensation.
A London Midland spokesman said “We apologise to all our passengers affected by this signal failure.
“We are working to get displaced trains and train crew back into position so that we can start running a full service on all lines as soon as possible.
“If passengers experience delays of 30 minutes or more we encourage them to claim delay repay compensation. “Full details on how to claim are available, along with the latest travel information, on the London Midland app and our website www.londonmidland.com.”
