A woman was pushed against a fence in an failed robbery in Northampton town centre.

Northamptonshire Police have said a 28-year-old woman was walking along Derngate, away from the town centre, when she was approached by three men.

One of the men asked her for a lighter.

When she told him she did not have one she crossed the road into Bedford Road, but heard someone running towards her.

The woman was then pushed against a fence, outside the flats at Beckett’s View, as the man tried to snatch her handbag.

Police say the woman managed to keep hold of it but suffered bruising to her knee and back.

One of the men was described as a “dark-skinned” boy, possibly Asian, aged 15, 5ft 8in, with dark hair and slim build. He had a slim face and was wearing a dark blue and brown coat.

The attempted robbery happened between 6.40pm and 7pm, last Wednesday.
