A volunteer emergency doctor from Northamptonshire was called to the M1 motorway yesterday to treat a woman who was badly injured in a crash.
Dr Peter Gordon MBE was called by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) to Newport Pagnell Services, on the southbound M1 at around 8.15am, following a crash involving two cars and a lorry.
A young woman, who suffered serious injuries in the collision, was the driver of one of the cars was treated at the scene.
She was treated by Dr Gordon during the long period of extrication from her vehicle by the Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service.
After being stabilised by Dr Gordon she was transferred by land ambulance to Walsgrave Hospital, near Coventry.
Dr Peter Gordon MBE is a retired general practitioner and now the Medical Advisor to Northamptonshire Police.
