A toddler is in a “critical condition” in hospital after she was given CPR having been found in a lake on a Northampton holiday park at the weekend.
The two-year-old girl was discovered in one of Billing Aquadrome’s lakes at around 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
She had been missing for around 10 minutes and had to be resuscitated after she was discovered.
It has emerged staff at the park carried out a search for the little girl after receiving reports of a missing child and quickly located her in the water.
She was given CPR before paramedics arrived and was then taken to Northampton General Hospital.
The young girl has since been transferred to Glenfield Hospital, in Leicester, where she is receiving specialist treatment. She is from Northampton.
A police spokesman confirmed the girl remains in a “critical” condition.
A spokesman for Pure Leisure Group, which owns Billing Aquadrome Holiday Park & Showground, near Great Billing, said staff at the park were “deeply saddened” by the incident.
They said: “Staff at Billing Aquadrome received a report of a missing child at 4.35pm on Sunday.
“The approved search strategy was implemented and followed all the prescribed safety procedures necessary. A child was found in one of the lakes just 12 to 14 minutes after she was reported missing.
“Billing Aquadrome staff rescued the child and applied CPR. She was taken to Northampton General Hospital.
“Everyone is deeply saddened and our thoughts go out to her parents and family. I have to praise the team at the park for their quick thinking in locking the site down immediately and launching a full search for the little girl.”
A police spokesman confirmed the force was treating the incident as an accident.
A Wootton Hall spokesman said: “Officers were called to an incident at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton, at 4.45pm on Sunday, March 10.
“A two-year-old girl, from Northampton, was found in a lake after being missing for a short time.
“Billing Aquadrome staff administered CPR at the scene before paramedics attended. The little girl was taken to Northampton General Hospital and later transferred to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester where she remains in a critical condition.
“The incident appears to have been an accident and is not being treated as suspicious.”
