Teenage girl ‘critical’ after horrific car crash on Northamptonshire Road
A TEENAGE girl spent her 15th birthday in hospital as she continues to fight for her life following an horrific car crash in Northamptonshire.
The young girl, named locally as Millie Toman, was critically injured after the car she was travelling in left the road and crashed, leaving five teenagers including the driver in hospital.
A police spokesman yesterday confirmed she remained at John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, where she remains “critical”.
The crash happened at around 9.30pm on Saturday on the A422 near Brackley. The red MG Rover ZR hatchback the teenager was travelling in left the road and crashed between the Oxford Road and Banbury Road roundabouts.
No other vehicles were involved.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Brackley, received a cut cheek in the crash and has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, from Brackley and Evenley, were also taken to John Radcliffe Hospital and are currently described as being in a “stable” condition.
One of the boys is believed to have suffered a broken elbow and collarbone, a smashed shoulder blade and a punctured lung.
The second teen is understood to have suffered a broken pelvis, a tear to his liver and damage to his eye socket.
They both remain in hospital.
The fifth passenger, a 15-year-old girl from Brackley, was discharged after treatment at Northampton General Hospital having suffered cuts and bruising.
Friends of Millie, who is believed to be a pupil at Magdalen College School, in Brackley, yesterday took to the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter to wish the teenager a happy birthday.
Messages were left on a page set up following the crash, with friends posting signs, messages and videos reading ‘Pray For Millie’.
Messages were also posted on Twitter and quickly became one of the most popular subject matters across the UK, with pop bands including JLS writing supportive messages.
One friend wrote: “Happy Birthday Millie. Wake up soon and we all love you.”
A local mother added: “My three children go to the same school as Millie and one of my sons knows her and is heartbroken. Praying for you darling and your whole family. Hope you get well soon sweetie.”
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the crash.
Road officers have asked anyone who may have spotted the red MG Rover on the roads immediately before the collision to call the Northamptonshire Police drivewatch hotline on 0800 174615.
