Police have arrested six people in Briar Hill and East Hunsbury as part of an Operation Guardian crackdown on suspected burglars.

It followed a number of house burglaries in the Northampton estates on Wednesday.

The area was filled with a wide range of police resources including local officers on foot, bicycles and vehicles, 13 plain-clothed officers, police dogs and the force helicopter.

Officers conducted patrols and stopped and searched people throughout the day.

Four burglaries were reported during the operation, which resulted in three people being arrested on suspicion of burglary. Three people were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary. T

Three suspects are still in custody and three have since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Northamptonshire Police’s lead officer on burglary, Inspector Nick Lyall, said: “Operation Guardian met the challenge yesterday and we will continue to make life harder for thieves.”
