River in Northampton searched for missing man, Artur Liana

Police today started searching the River Nene as they continue to hunt for a man who went missing from outside a Northampton nightclub before Christmas.

Artur Liana aged 32, was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, December 22.

He was captured on CCTV footage outside the Borjia nightclub, in Castilian Street, at approximately 1.35am on Saturday morning after he had become separated from his friends.

Police have already carried out searches in the town centre and yesterday officers were joined by the fire service to search the banks of the River Nene.

More than 200 pieces of CCTV are still being viewed, with detectives still at a loss about the Polish national’s nearabouts.

Detective Inspector Louise Fleckney, from Northampton CID, said: “Mr Liana’s disappearance is completely out of character and we are extremely concerned about his welfare.

“We have had a team of officers involved in looking for him since he went missing and they have completed a thorough search of the town centre and the route Mr Liana would have used to get home in St Andrews Road.

“Part of those efforts has also included a search of the River Nene as there is a chance that Mr Liana may have fallen into the water.

“Yesterday we were joined by colleagues from the Fire and Rescue service and worked our way from near St Andrews Road downstream to the marina in Becket’s Park.

“The search of the river is just one aspect of the work that is taking place to trace Mr Liana.

“We are still appealing for anyone who may have seen Mr Liana since 22 December or who may have any information about his whereabouts.”

Mr Liana is a 32-year-old Polish man, described as white, around 6ft 2ins, of medium build with short dark hair.

He was wearing a smart, dark coloured suit jacket with a lighter coloured shirt, smart casual trousers in a lighter colour than the suit jacket, and black shoes when he went missing.
