A43, between Hannington Crossroads and the Sywell-Holcot roundabout. Near to Hardwick and Sywell Woods. Acts of indecency complaint by Kettering woman who stopped to walk her dog with her 4 year old daughter. (dogging) Northbound lay-by going towards Kettering Friday 20th January, 2012

TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of public indecency at a well-known dogging spot just days after the Chronicle & Echo exposed the “daily” sexual activity taking place at the secluded spot.

The pair were arrested this week as part of a “proactive” police operation to target men who meet to have sex in public in two lay-bys, both off the A43, near Hannington.

Both men, aged 23 and 56, were arrested in the northbound lay-by at 11.30pm on Monday on suspicion of public indecency offences. They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A police spokesman said officers would continue to patrol the area following the arrests.

The spokesman said: “Two men have been arrested on suspicion of outraging public decency on the A43, as part of a pro-active operation in the area.

“Officers arrested a 23-year-old man and a 56-year-old man at about 11.30pm on a northbound lay-by near Holcot on the A43. Both men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

“Officers will be actively patrolling these areas and will take positive action in relation to any incidents that are identified.”

The arrests come after the Chron revealed how a mother and her young daughter pulled into the lay-by earlier this month to find men having sex with each other in woods close to the lay-by.

She described her horror after stumbling upon naked men having performing lewd sex act on each other at around 2pm on Sunday, January 16.

The mother told how her four-year-old daughter had been left traumatised by the sight, after she pulled into the lay-by to walk her dog during a long road trip.

Locals then told the Chron how men would ‘cruise’ the lay-bys at all times of the day and night, meeting for sex in the nearby woods, cars, in the open and even in campervans throughout the day.

Police revealed they would step up patrols in the area following the shocking reports.

Sergeant Mike Grady, of Daventry Rural Safer Community Team, said: “We have long been aware that these lay-bys have been used as a gay meeting place, however, we were not aware that the area was being used beyond initial encounter.

“I will brief my staff to patrol the area and deal with any offences they find.”

Naomi, what do they do if they are bi, or do they get to choose what to call it depending on which person they are watching or 'interacting' with.

I wish people would get their terminology correct. According to the well respected Dogging Direct resource it is only heterosexuals go dogging. Gays do not go dogging - they go cottaging!

Salcey Forest ,everybody knows thats where the dogging goes on!The main layby is full of cars day and night ,how do I know people talk about it all the time,If it is late at night it is doing no body any harm, but when the cars are there during the day when people are out walking the dog or just out for a stroll thats not on.

I just thought of something , if a few of the gay guys turned up in the lay in couple of Triansit vans and told the police that they were "Travellers" , they wouldn't be bothered again !

Two men have been arrested. No charges have been made and I suspect the police will now let the matter rest, having achieved their objective of getting these people to move to another layby..... no Teddy I can't recommend any....I'm married and too old for that sort of thing....

I read the original report and I thought that at 2 on a weekend afternoon this was a very obvious anti-social activity. But 11.30 at night? And do the police only act when they get a tip-off from the Chronic? Modern policing; good init!
