Police warning shoppers about pickpockets in Northampton’s Grosvenor Centre

Northamptonshire Police are hosting a pickpocket awareness event in the Grosvenor Centre on Saturday.

Northamptonshire Police are hosting a pickpocket awareness event in the Grosvenor Centre on Saturday.

Police in Northamptonshire will be raising awareness of pickpockets in the town centre.

On Saturday, 2 August, between 10am and 3pm, officers from the central safer community team will be holding a crime prevention event in the Grosvenor Centre Lower Mall.

They’ll be joined between 11am and 1pm by a ‘pickpocket performer’ who will be acting out scenarios with volunteering shoppers, to show just how easy it can by for thieves to steal from people while they are in a busy shopping environment.

The pickpocket performer will demonstrate how pickpockets operate, their techniques for distracting people and how sly the actual theft can be.

PCSOs Chloe Edwards and Naomi Burkart-Barker will be staffing the stall throughout the day and will be on hand to talk to shoppers and give out crime prevention information.
