Police warning after supermarket car park distraction theft

A kind-hearted shopper who stopped to help a man with directions in a Northampton supermarket ended up having her purse pinched.

Police today issued an appeal for witnesses to theft in the car park of Morrisons’ Kettering Road store on Tuesday, between 1pm and 1.45pm.

The woman victim was returning to her car when she was approached by a man who asked for directions. She helped him and continued on her journey home, but minutes later realised her passenger door was open and her purse had been taken from her handbag on the passenger seat.

The only description of the man who asked for directions is that he was Eastern European, but Northamptonshire Police are urging people to be on the lookout for this and to make sure they are not distracted by people in car parks.
