Police name woman, 64, killed in Valentine’s Day crash on M1 near Watford Gap

A woman killed in an accident on the M1 last Thursday has been named by Northamptonshire Police.

Kathleen Ann Coton, known as Annie, aged 64 and from Epperstone, Nottinghamshire, was a passenger in a silver Mercedes C Class, involved in a collision with a white Mercedes Sprinter van, a mile south of Watford Gap Services.

The collision happened at about 1.20pm, when the C Class was parked on the hard shoulder. The 70-year-old woman driving the car and a 70-year-old man who was a passenger in the car, both sustained life-threatening injuries and remain in hospital.

The 30-year-old man who was driving the Sprinter van was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.
