A pervert has been jailed after he followed and then sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl as she walked home from a friend’s barbecue.
Muqtader Syed, aged 31, of Wellingborough Road, assaulted the girl in Northampton town centre.
Northampton Crown Court heard the “young looking girl”, who was less than five feet tall, left a friend’s barbecue in Northampton earlier this year.
The girl initially began walking home with friends, but was then left on her own as they went another way.
Syed then started following her, talking to her at first.
He asked her back to his flat, but then attempted to kiss her.
The teen pushed him away, but a short time later he grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her.
The attack happened near Kettering Road.
When the girl, who by this time was in “floods of tears”, made it to Wellingborough Road, Syed found a police officer and told the Pc he was concerned about the girl’s welfare.
However, jailing him for four-and-a-half years, Judge Rupert Mayo rejected any suggestion Syed was trying to help his victim, saying he was showing only fake concern in a bid to cover up the attack.
He said it should have been clear to him the victim was only a young girl. The judge said: “This is the worst nightmare for any child and any parent who trusts their child to come home safely from an evening out.”
India-born Syed, who has been in the UK since 2005, faces deportation once he is released.
