Police & Crime Commissioner Adam Simmonds has challenged his “fiercest” online critics to meet him face-to-face in a debate hosted by the Chronicle & Echo.
Mr Simmonds has been targeted by a number of readers on the Chron’s website since taking over the £70,000-post last year.
He has now called on the anonymous posters – who frequently leave unflattering and often personal attacks below stories on the Chron’s website about the PCC – to meet him face-to-face.
He contacted the Chron this week to lay down the challenge. Mr Simmonds said: “For the best part of a year, around 20 anonymous posters have made continuing criticism of me online beneath the Chronicle & Echo’s news stories.
“Criticism goes with my job. I welcome constructive criticism. But much of this particular criticism has been highly personal, hateful and often actionable.
“So I think it’s time for me to meet my most vociferous online critics face to face.
“The Chronicle & Echo’s editor has agreed to host this meeting.”
The meeting would be held on Monday, December 16 at the Chron’s office at Albert House, Victoria Street, Northampton, at 6pm.
Adam Simmonds has named the online posters he hopes to confront in person.
He said: “You, Claret Paul, Glyndwr Michael, Abertaweguy, Demon1967, Wagthedog, putmedownasshocked, Renfrew boy, scrappy coco, Dr Oxygen, Weemo, Willi Eckaslycke, Iudex, Lettice Protheroe, Cobbler, HOS, Loki, Probe, 362 Victoria Road, Mcaardvark and Mr Powell are my most vociferous, anonymous arch critics. I look forward to meeting you all.”
