After crossing Barrack Road to head back home they were approached by three thugs who rudely called out to the parents who were holding hands with their daughter.

After questioning what the yobs said to them, they shouted at the victim to **** off, before one offender attacked him.

The victim, who stepped into the doorway nearby shop for help, said: "He came straight at me with no consideration for my family and before I could say anything he punched me in my face.

"Another one of the youths came straight up to me and lifted his t-shirt to show me he had a blade. I was then threatened to be stabbed in the doorway of a shop as I was shouting for them to ring the police.

"No-one came to help as both my partner and five-year-old daughter were screaming and crying for help. My daughter was hysterically screaming 'my daddy'. My partner was trying to defend her against the youths.

"It was just so frightening, we were just a young family walking home from school. My daughter still had her school uniform on."

The father wants the public to know about the frightening incident as it happened at 1pm.

"I want the public to know that anything could happen and I don't want this to ever happen again to other people," he added.
