Northamptonshire Police lose 200 staff in 12 months

NEW figures have revealed more than 200 police officers, back-room staff and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have lost their jobs in Northamptonshire in the last 12 months.
The Home Office yesterday announced 75 police officers had left Northamptonshire Police since September 2010, along with a further 152 members of police staff and six PCSOs.
The majority of officers who have left the force have done so under the controversial A19 rule, which allows officers to be pensioned off after 30 years’ service, whether they want to or not.
Roy Woolliscroft, chairman of Northamptonshire Police Federations, which represents rank and file officers across the county, said a vast amount of experienced staff had already been lost in Northamptonshire.
He said: “It is an awful lot of experience to be losing and it is putting pressure on us to continue to deliver service.
“I think we are still delivering service at the moment but as the cuts continue and as it bites more I don’t see how it can continue, either nationally or locally.”
Mr Woolliscroft added that the A19 ruling had meant a number of long-standing police officers had been forced out of the force against their will.
He said: “The reality is we have always had the option of leaving the force after 30 years’ service, as that is our pensionable age.
“The A19 system stops choice and doesn’t allow the retention of experienced people who want to stay.
“A number of very experience officers have had to leave the organisation against their will which is disappointing for them and for the organisation as well, I believe, because experience is very important.
“Policing is about experience and understanding how to deal with situations.”
The news comes as police chiefs are also facing up to the possibility of losing dozens of PCSOs across the county as Northamptonshire County Council and Northampton Borough Council prepare to cut a combined £600,000 a year funding.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 08:49 PM'In my locality the only time you really see the Police... is when they are buying Sandwiches from the Supermarket or Chips from the Chip Shop' **************** I would count your blessing that you are thusly fortunate to have such infrequent contact with the Police Kev and that you live in such a pleasant area. The implication is very much that you take umbridge they are out in your community taking a lunch break (otherwise, why mention it?) I have already stated my opinion of people moaning about seeing officers when they dare take 5 mins for lunch vis a vis poppin into a supermarket for a sandwich. If you are mearly unhappy with the lack of police in your area, I would suggest making contact with your local police team to voice your concerns.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 07:23 PMThe cuts in Northants police are more or less in line with those in other forces. In this respect, at least, for once,Ccameron is correctt and 'we are all in this together'.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 06:52 PMExiledWelshie for your information I never had either a Speeding Ticket or Parking Fine. You have also missed my Point, Im not complaining about Police Officers taking breaks, just merely pointing out My perspective of the Police Presence in my locality. With regards to your reference to “Moron”, well that possibly says a lot more about you than Others.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 06:20 PMI have a friend who is in the police and it this really annoys me. I cannot believe that people honestly begrudge the police a lunch break... Your right though, they DO take the mick when they stop to get a sandwich which they just about have time to eat before going to the next call. I bet the same morons who complain about this would be even more outraged if the same officers ate their lunch in the station away from the public. I honestly believe that some people just like to moan about the police for the sake of it. As for cutting 200 officers, you may not notice the difference As I would hazard a guess that you are one of those who view them as an inconvenience to you, hassling you for parking speeding, but perhaps those less fortunate than you or more vulnerable than you will really notice the difference.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 05:58 PMThe fact that they CAN lose 200 shows how Labour have simply used public funds to employ people. Spend spend spend.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 04:42 PMKev O you're about right except that for the shopping trips they have use of the company cars! The cars are always available, fueled up and ready at the station, waiting for the rapid response to hunger pangs. And no - they are not responding to shoplifting, standing waiting at the till is a dead giveaway.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 04:14 PMIn my locality the only time you really see the Police is when they are on a Money Making Exercise, such as Speed Traps or Parking Tickets. The only real exception to this is when they are buying Sandwiches from the Supermarket or Chips from the Chip Shop. If you ring about something you get given a Crime Number and that’s about it………….

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 03:41 PMIt seems to me that the police spend little time doing what I would like them to do. Mostly they sound like wannabe social workers.
