A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Kingsthope, Northampton late on Friday night.

Roads were closed in The Green as police officers investigated the scene late in the evening.

A statement issued by the force on Saturday afternoon said: “A female received serious injuries, believed to have occurred as a result of an assault.

“At this time there is a man in custody and the police are not looking for anyone else.

“We do not believe there was or remains any risk to the local or broader community.”

It has been claimed the woman was stabbed, but the police have refused to confirm this.

Anyone who has information about the incident can call the police on 101.
