Motorcyclist broke both legs after crashing into a car when he was on wrong side of Northampton road

A 26-year-old Northampton man broke both his legs after he rode a motorcycle away from police on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a car, a court heard.

Mark Culverhouse, of Alliston Gardens, Semilong, Northampton, was charged with dangerous driving after the crash on March 29 last year.

Northampton Crown Court heard Culverhouse was seen to ride a motorbike at speed across Eastfield Park and then down Booth Lane.

Culverhouse crashed into a car after as he was travelling on the wrong side of the road and he flew over the bonnet of the vehicle.

Caroline Bray, prosecuting, said Culverhouse suffered two broken legs and was unable to walk for nine months.

Ms Bray said Culverhouse was a “prolific offender” who had been jailed for 16 weeks in October last year after he admitted assaulting a police constable.

Culverhouse pleaded guilty to dangerous driving as well as riding a motorbike without a licence or insurance.

Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking decided to defer sentencing for four months to see if he could stay out of trouble for that period of time.

Judge Lucking said she hoped Culverhouse would not “waste the opportunity” she had given him
