Northamptonshire Police are reminding people to make sure doors and windows are locked following two burglaries over the weekend.

Thieves stole cash and mobile phones from a house in Leighton Road, Corby, after getting in through an unlocked front door. The burglary happened between 5.15pm and 6.15pm on Friday.

On Saturday, between 12.30pm and 9pm, an iPad was stolen from a house in Collingwood Avenue, Corby, after burglars got in through an unlocked kitchen door at the side of the house.

PC Lisa Golland said: “Many burglars are opportunistic and will simply try a door to see if it’s open. Even if someone is at home, if a door is left unlocked, it can take just seconds for them to walk in and steal something.

“I would urge people make sure all external doors are locked at all times and, if you open a window for air during the warm weather, remember to close it again when you leave the room.”

Witnesses to these incidents, or anyone with information, are asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
