A man tried to rob two teenagers and then spat on a passerby who tried to intervene.

Police have today revealed a 17-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister were approached by a man as they reached the junction of Spencer Bridge Road and Countess Road in Northampton on Wednesday between 3.50pm and 4.20pm.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “The girl accidentally walked in the path of the man and her brother laughingly pulled her to one side, thinking nothing more of it.

“The man became angry and confronted the boy, threatening him verbally and then patting his pockets, asking the boy what he had on him.

“The situation was partially defused by a passing family friend who walked the children away from the man. As this happened, the man spat on the family friend.”

The man is black, 6ft 4in and wore dark clothes including a green knee-length jacket.

Witnesses, or anyone with information, can call police on 101.

Alternatively, information can be given to Crimestoppers anonymous by ringing 0800 555 111.
