Several places in the immediate area have been cordoned off, including the alleyway to the side of the Penny Whistle pub, all day as police investigated.

A police spokesman confirmed in the last few minutes that the victim was in a critical condition in hospital and that they had arrested a 22-year-old man.

He also appealed for any witnesses to the alleged attack to call 101 and speak to Northamptonshire CID or the Criminal Justice Centre, quoting ‘incident number 87 on August 17’.
