A man accused of killing a Duston coin dealer has denied murder.

Mark Ellson, aged 41, formerly of Wellingborough but now of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty when a charge of murder was put to him at Northampton Crown Court today.

Ellson denies killing Giuseppe Miceli, known as Joe, who was found dead in his bungalow in Bants Lane, Duston, in July.

The 72-year-old Italian businessman was involved in the coin and medal trade for more than 40 years after moving to England.

He originally ran his shop, The Coin and Medal Centre, from Wellingborough Road in Northampton, and then later from his home.

He had planned to retire next year.

After his death, Mr Miceli was described as a “lovely old fella” and a “real character” by neighbours and friends.
