The police have said they are not treating the death of a man whose body was found in the River Nene in Northampton on Tuesday as suspicious.
The discovery was made in Becket’s Park, Northampton town centre, by a kyaker.
Officers were called to the River Nene, in the Victoria Promenade area behind Morrisons, following the discovery.
The kayaker, who has asked not to be named, said: “I was heading down the river to go on a picnic in the park with my family when I got to Morrisons and found the body.
“At first I thought it was a cuddly toy or something, but then I saw the face and right away I knew it was a body.

“It looked as though it had been in the river for quite some time, so it was a shocking discovery to make.”
A spokesman for the police added: “Officers were called to the scene at around 12.20pm this afternoon and worked with the Fire and Rescue Service to recover the body.
“There is no further information at this stage - we will provide an update once we have further information.”
After the body was removed from the river, it was examined in a tent which the police put up at the side of the river, before being taken away just before 4pm.
