‘I’ve been drinking, arrest me’ Northamptonshire man admits drink driving after being stopped by police officer

Christopher Mills, aged 24, of Warwick Road, Upper Boddington, was stopped by a police officer in High Street, Weedon, at 1am on May 18.

Northampton Magistrates’ Court heard Mills had been disqualified from driving but the ban was due to expire at midnight on May 19.

The court heard that Mills told the officer “I’ve been drinking, arrest me”.

He then told him he knew his driving ban was due to expire in the next few days.

Claire Fitzpatrick, mitigating, said Mills worked at the Plough Inn in Upper Boddington and had enjoyed a few drinks after work before driving to a house in a nearby village.

Mrs Fitzpatrick said Mills had bought a car in readiness for his driving ban to end and could not resist using it to drive on the night he was arrested.

Mills pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving while over the alcohol limit.

The court heard Mills gave a reading of 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The case was adjourned for probation reports to be carried out.
