A CHARITABLE Chron reader has come forward to donate hundreds of pounds of equipment to a teenage racer who had his kart stolen.

Graham Goss, aged 64, from Flore, has donated the items, which included a chassis, wheels and axles, to 15-year-old Daniel Hemmings.

Thieves stole Daniel’s kart, tools and a generator from the garage of his grandparents in Friars Crescent, Delapre, Northampton, between 10.45pm on Thursday, January 19 and 9.30am on Friday January 20.

Mr Goss, who is a member of The Rotary Club of Northampton Becket, said: “I read the article in the Chronicle & Echo about Daniel’s car being stolen and I wanted to help.

“I have a lot of equipment from when my sons used to race and I needed to clear it out, so I thought it might be of some use.”

Mr Goss, whose 30-year-old son Alistair is a professional kart racing tutor, donated the equipment to Daniel and his family in return for a donation to the Rotary Club.

Daniel’s dad, John Hemmings, said the items were worth around £1,000 and would be a great help to build a new kart.

He said: “I didn’t expect someone to come forward with a donation like this and it is really good of Mr Goss. Daniel is delighted about it.”

He added: “We are still hoping that someone will come forward about the kart and that the original one will be found but we will concentrate on building a new one in time for Daniel’s next races in March.”

Mr Goss said: “I know how devastated Daniel would have been to have had the kart stolen as I used to race myself.

“The cost of kart racing is really high nowadays, especially when it is being done on a budget, so I really wanted to help.”

Caroline Chisholm School pupil Daniel, from High Street, Wootton, Northampton, who finished third in a racing championship for his club, Stretton Circuit Kart Club in Leicestershire, spent three years building his kart.

Daniel, who has been racing for three years and won more than 25 trophies, now has just a few weeks to put together a new kart ready for the start of the next season in March. Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
