Five women have been arrested after a suspected brothel was raided in Wellingborough.

More than 15 officers rushed into the Victoria Sauna, off Canon Street, yesterday afternoon.

The raid came after a six-month background investigation by officers from Wellingborough Police Station.

Once inside, officers found four scantily clad women and sex toys around the premises.

One woman, thought to be the madam, was brought out of the building after being arrested under the Proceeds of Crime Acts and on suspicion of living off immoral earnings.

Four women in their twenties were also arrested for sexual crimes and were taken to Wellingborough Police Station.

Inspector Nick Lyall, Wellingborough sector commander, said: “I am very pleased with the positive result of this investigation.

“Community intelligence was telling us that this is a brothel.

“I have committed to dealing with things that matter to the local community, and this had been reported by the local community

“The suspects will now be interviewed about the relevant offences and we will continue to carry out some further inquiries. And work will now go into finding clients.”

Our exclusive pictures show the inside of the premises, including menus for clients to chose from a range of options, including a ‘uniforms’ option.

The two main bedrooms were decorated in pink and red themes – one wall was even adorned with rows of hearts.

There was a reception area at the entrance to the building and a room with sofas and a portable sauna in the corner.

A woman who works for a business which is near to the Victoria Sauna, spoke to our reporter, but didn’t want to be identified.

She said: “The women are not doing any harm – it’s the men they should be after.

“They come down here all the time, and they don’t look like tramps either, they are all in suits.”

A male neighbour, who also didn’t want to be identified, said: “I have never heard any noise coming from those premises so I am quite surprised.”

At the time of going to press, the women were expected to be released on bail pending further inquiries.
