Court hears of severe injuries to seven week old baby in murder case

Jamie Kightley

Jamie Kightley

The parents of a baby who died five days before he was two months old have appeared in Northampton Crown Court this morning after being charged yesterday with his murder.

Adam Kightley, aged 23, and 21-year-old Jackie Parker, both from Northampton, appeared for the short preliminary hearing which followed yesterday’s appearance at Northampton Magistrates’ court.

Seven-week-old Jamie Kightley of London Road, Far Cotton, died at Northampton General Hospital on Saturday, March 17, last year.

Today, the court heard details of his injuries which included severe hemorrhaging, rib fractures and extensive bruising.

Both Kightley and Parker indicated they would be pleading not guilty, however, no pleas were entered.

No application for bail was made.

Judge Mayo indicated a trial would not take place until the Autumn.

A plea and case management hearing is due to be held in May.
