A car crashed through a fence into a construction site after it was forced off the road by a BMW in Northampton town centre.

The vehicle that crashed, a green Fiat Punto, had been travelling from the St Peter’s Way roundabout towards Black Lion Hill, on Friday night when the collision happened at 7.15pm.

It was in the nearside lane when a dark grey BMW 3 Series, which had been driving alongside it, changed lanes and collided with it.

The Punto went off the road, through a fence and into the construction site for the University of Northampton’s Innovation Cube building, hitting a lamppost on the way.

The driver of the BMW failed to stop at the scene. Their car is described as an “older looking” BMW, possibly an Y or X reg, with its exhaust hanging off.

The driver of the Punto was taken to hospital with minor injuries and shock.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this accident or who may recognise the description of the BMW.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
