Burglars who raided a pensioner’s home in Northampton attacked her elderly neighbour when he tried to help the victim.

The thieves stole jewellery and cash from the 83-year-old woman’s home in Tryingham Close on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “The woman left her home briefly and, on her return, found a man in the house who demanded she opened the front door for him to leave.

“The victim called a neighbour who arrived to find the offender still in the house. The offender pushed the neighbour - a man in his early 70s - over, before leaving the house and running off towards Booth Lane.

“The victim later discovered that five rings, a bracelet and a small amount of cash had been stolen.

“The offender was a tanned, white man, 5ft 10ins, of muscular build, in his mid-20s, with a fat face, short, cropped dark hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a black vest, dark trousers and was wearing white gloves.

“The incident took place between 4.30pm and 5pm,” he added.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information regarding it. Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
