Molly Mae Wotherspoon died following the attack by an American pit bull at a house in Morning Star Road, Daventry, on October 3 last year.

Her grandmother, Susan Aucott, 55, from Northampton, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court this morning and entered no plea to a charge under the Dangerous Dogs Act, having a dog that was dangerously out of control.

The chair of the bench declined jurisdiction as any potential sentencing is beyond the court’s remit.

The case was sent to Northampton Crown Court to be heard next month and Mrs Aucott was given conditional bail until that date.

Mollie Mae’s mum, Clare Riley was due to appear, however she did not attend due to illness. Her case was adjourned until next month.
