Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a woman from Daventry died from a head injury in the early hours of this morning.
Officers were called to Grenville Close at around 2.15am where they found the 36-year-old woman bleeding heavily from a head wound.
She later died at Northampton General Hospital.
The incident is believed to have happened in Jervis Close, where two children were found by officers unharmed.
The victim is believed to have then raised the alarm from a property in the nearby Grenville Close.
A police spokesman said: “Police arrived at an address in nearby Grenville Close shortly after 2.15am to find a 36-year-old woman bleeding heavily from her head. She was taken to Northampton General Hospital where she died a short while later.
“A 46-year-old man from Daventry has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody at the Criminal Justice Centre in Northampton.
“A forensic post-mortem will take place at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
“Two young children, aged five and two, have been recovered safe and well from the property in Jervis Close and are presently in the care of social services.
“Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area today.”
