BREAKING NEWS: 101-year-old injured in sickening attack
A 101-year-old man was assaulted by youths after challenging them when they kicked away his walking stick, police said today.
The pensioner, who has poor sight and hearing, was walking through a sheltered housing complex when the boys came up behind him and accosted him.
He challenged them but then felt two hands on his back and was pushed to the floor, Northamptonshire Police said.
The thugs fled the scene afterwards, while their elderly victim nursed cuts to his wrist, arm and face and a swollen nose.
He made his way to a nearby post office, where an ambulance was called and the man received medical attention.
Police are appealing for information about the assault at Spencer Haven in Northampton at around midday on Saturday.
The youths are believed to be in their early teens or younger.
A police spokesman said: “It is possible that this may not be an isolated incident and that there may have been similar incidents in recent weeks that have not been reported.”
Anecdotal evidence suggests a gang of youths are targeting elderly residents in the area and tormenting them by kicking their walking sticks away.
Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, can call Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111222 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 01:56 PMI agree the actions of these 3 boys is disgusting, and I also doubt that the authorities will have the power to punish them. But don't forget (ELM) that these boys are the small minority as the majority of kids do not behave this way. Thats why this has been reported in the media. (I do wish the C&E wrote some positive stories about young people occasionally, instead of just negative ones. I personally know there are plenty) Although I doubt that makes this elderly victim feel any better, I hope he makes a swift full recovery and does not let the actions of these 3 boys stop him from doing anything in the future.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 07:32 PMso the police are now steping up patrols in the area. A bit late that and only a short term solution. What happens when they give up. More muggings and youngsters attacking those that cannot defend hemselves?

Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 07:37 AMAbsolutely disgusting. Kids have no respect for anything or anyone these days, because they know they can get away with it.

Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10:35 PMCowardly scum, pure and simple. In the unlikely event they catch these little toe rags they should seize all their Playstations, MP3 players, mobile phones and anything else of value they undoubtedly own and sell them with the funds going to the victim. As well as whatever stay in a holiday camp that passes for punishment these days...
