Attempted gunpoint robbery at Santander bank in Northampton

POLICE have released a CCTV image of a man wanted in connection with an attempted robbery at Santander, Market Place, Northampton.

POLICE have released a CCTV image of a man wanted in connection with an attempted robbery at Santander, Market Place, Northampton.

A CCTV image has been released of a man who told staff in a branch of Santander in Northampton town centre he had a gun during an attempted robbery.

A man went into the bank, off The Drapery, in Market Square, on Tuesday, April 1, at about 12.15pm. and queued at the cash desk.

When he approached the cash desk, he handed over a note demanding cash and telling the cashier he had a gun in his bag.

The cashier pressed the emergency button to close the desk shutters and the man left the bank empty handed

The man is described as white, aged 40-50, with a stocky build and short, thin grey hair. He had a fresh scar above his left eye and was wearing blue jeans, a dark green jacket and a polo shirt in a lighter green. He was carrying a blue and white holdall.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may recognise the man in the photograph or his description.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
