Nine men and two women have been arrested following a raid at a traveller site on the Northamptonshire border with Buckinghamshire.

Officers from Northamptonshire Police made the arrests earlier today and are searching caravans and other property at the Dunroamin site, which is close to the village of Whitfield and the Turweston aerodrome in the south of the county.

The arrests have been made in connection with a range of suspected offences including shoplifting, garage forecourt drive-offs and burglary.

Chief Inspector Tom Thompson, Daventry district commander, said: “We have had a very successful morning in terms of making arrests which we believe are linked to a large amount of criminality.

“A team of officers have conducted a thorough search of the site and local community officers from Brackley remain on the site to assist with things like children attending school.

“Although the site is in Buckinghamshire, Thames Valley Police agreed to support an operation which has been led by Northamptonshire Police.”

The 11 people arrested are currently in custody at the Criminal Justice Centre in Northampton.
