Consultation on proposal to move New Duston Post Office

The Post Office is holding a public consultation on a proposal to move New Duston Post Office.

The plan is to move the post office to Londis Stores at 585 to 587 Harlestone Road, Northampton.

If the move goes ahead the post office would be open seven days a week with extended opening hours.

The Post Office says that New Duston would be a modern open-plan local branch with Post Office services provided from two open-plan tills at the shop counter instead of from separate screened counters.

Services would be provided throughout shop opening hours Monday – Saturday: 6am – 7pm; Sunday: 7am – 1pm. This is an extra 38 hours a week of Post Office service including Sunday morning and Saturday afternoon. The branch would open significantly earlier and close later every day.

The relocation, which is with the current Postmaster’s agreement, would be part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Will Russell, regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in this area of Northampton and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a public consultation. During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is made.
