A Corby woman who is believed to be the county’s oldest resident has celebrated her 108th birthday.
Mabel Wadsworth was born on August 16, 1908, and celebrated her special day with family and friends at Sandalwood Court in Corby on Tuesday.
Born in Kettering in 1908, Mabel left school at 14 and went to work in a corset factory where her first weekly wage was just eight shillings.
She met her husband Ronald and the couple married and later went to live in Gretton, moving to Corby 60 years ago.
Mrs Wadsworth, who now has more than 40 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, only moved to Sandalwood Court after living in her own home up until the age of 106.
According to the Oldest In Britain website, which compiles a list of the UK’s oldest residents, Mrs Wadsworth is the oldest person living in Northamptonshire and the 94th oldest person in the UK.
The oldest living person in the UK currently is Bessie Camm from Rotherham, who is 112.
