Parents of pupils at two primary schools in Northampton were invited to a special assembly this morning to celebrate their conversion to academy status.
Sunnyside Primary Academy and the Woodvale Primary Academy were officially opened by Barry Day, the chief executive of the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT) which is the new sponsor of the schools.
The principal of both academies will be Erica Holt, who was the headteacher of the predecessor schools and Lynda Valentine, a senior executive principal from the GDFT, will monitor the progress of the two schools.
Barry Day, chief executive of the GDFT which also sponsors Weston Favell Academy, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sunnyside and Woodvale into our group of Academies. Our trust is committed to the highest of standards and we expect outstanding levels of achievement in all areas of the academic and personal development of pupils.
“We will continue the excellent work already in place at the two schools in order to raise achievement for children in Kingsthorpe and the eastern district.
“We will use our extensive educational expertise to significantly improve the results and life chances of pupils at both of these new academies. Both academies will receive bespoke support from the trust’s primary consultants and will be able to benefit from the best practice developed by our other seven primary academies.”
The opening of the two primary academies takes the total number of open academies sponsored by the GDFT to 15.
