A charity grant pot provided by Northamptonshire County Council has been closed down due to over-subscription.

The council has funded a small grants programme for the Northamptonshire Community Foundation (NCF) for the last two years and the foundation has distributed the money to a variety of local causes.

Victoria Miles, chief executive of the NCF, confirmed the small grants pot has had to be shut down for the time being due to its popularity.

The NCF, an independent grant-making charity, has distributed £400,000 out of this grant pot to local causes over the last two years.

Ms Miles said: “The small grants pot has been hugely popular. We have had to close it down because of this. Hopefully, we will be able to distribute more funding next year.

“We give away lots of money on behalf of different donors and this is one pot we had to distribute on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council.

“The pot has funded a lot of good groups and great projects. It was an excellent pot to deliver.”

She said she hoped the programme would re-open in April, but added: “We are in talks with the county council to continue this pot but we haven’t had anything in writing yet.”

Other funding pots are still available at NCF. For details call Northampton 230 033.
