A song recorded by a Northampton School for Girls sixth form student has been released on iTunes.
Smell The Coffee, written and performed by Chanelle Steedman has been released via the school’s own record label, NSG Records, set up by fellow sixth form student, Alice Dabell.
Ms Steedman said: “I am so excited to have my own song on iTunes, it is something I have dreamed of since a young girl, and with the help of the school record label, it is finally happening.”
The song was chosen to be released after all students in the school were invited to send their original tracks and covers to email@example.com, where they would then be uploaded to the website www.nsgrecords.webs.com.
Chanelle’s song, Forever Yours, managed to rack up over 1000 YouTube views, making her entry the most shared, played and downloaded. Smell The Coffee is her new single which was recorded in the sixth form studios.
Following on from this project, Ms Dabell has spent her summer working in London with the management teams of Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, and The Saturdays.
Ms Dabell said: “It has been a lot of hard work, but everyone part of NSG Records has fully enjoyed their experience. A lot of students study music at school, but it’s surprising how little they know about the business behind it. I launched NSG Records in an attempt to educate the schools’ most talented musicians about the competitive industry which they could very well be working in as adults.”
