A man, who was previously homeless in Northampton, will complete a 120 mile walk to raise awareness about the issues rough sleepers face.

James McLean, aged 34, passed through Northampton town centre yesterday on his walk from Leicester to London, where he plans to speak to MPs about his appeal for more help for the homeless.

Mr McLean will sleep rough along the way and plans to reach parliament on Sunday or Monday.

He said: “I want to raise issues surrounding homelessness with members of Parliament and get more help for homeless people.

“Something just snapped in me to do this. It’s a bit of a mad mission but sometimes you have to do something mad to get noticed.”

Mr McLean was homeless in Northampton in 2008 and was helped to find accommodation and a job by the Jesus Army in Abington Square.
