A hairdresser from Northampton has won a national competition as one of the most talented young professionals in the UK.

Kelsie O’Connor, from Hensmans on Kettering Road, Northampton, has won a place on the the Young Artistic Team for Schwarzkopf Professional, beating more than 40 other hairdressers in an ‘X Factor’ style panel audition.

A panel of judges drawn from journalists and industry experts watched her progress while she prepared her look and then put her through her paces as she presented her model on stage.

As a member of the team, Nicole has a whirlwind 12 months of new experiences ahead including mentoring and training from some of Schwarzkopf’s top educators, an opportunity to create a team collection shoot and chances to assist and appear on stage alongside some of the industry’s key professionals. Her model along with an outstanding presentation really caught the eye of the judges.

Kelsie said: “I feel very privileged to have gained a place on the team! I can’t wait to get into the training, learning all sorts of things that I can bring back into the salon. I’m so proud to be the 18th representative from Hensmans to be chosen for YAT. To be hand selected by industry experts is a massive honour – I was so nervous on the day but it was definitely all worth it.”

Catherine Adams, manager of the Schwarzkopf Professional Young Artistic Team, said: “The Young Artistic Team auditions draw young talent from all over the country and this year they really raised the bar. They were all incredibly focused on the day and showed an amazing amount of talent and confidence for such a young team. We are really excited about our seven members and looking forward to a wonderful year working with them.”
