A 49-year-old man who is running the length of the UK with a fridge on his back as part of a 40-day fund-raising challenge has passed through Northamptonshire.
Tony ‘the Fridge’ Phoenix-Morrison, from Hebburn, South Tyneside, is raising money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that directly benefit cancer patients.
The grandfather passed through Northampton on Tuesday, the 25th day of his Smeg John O’Groats to Land’s End Endurance Challenge, which involves running 40 marathons, in 40 consecutive days, and carrying a 42.5kg fridge every step of the way.
Mr Phoenix-Morrison said: “It is an ordeal every day is just a battle and struggle for survival in lots of ways. But when you are fighting cancer it is very similar.
“The fridge is really a way of representing the burden of cancer. Hopefully by doing this impossible journey I’m giving a lift to some people that are fighting cancer.”
Tony has previously run 30 half marathons over 30 consecutive days carrying a fridge.
