Weekend lane closures will be used over the next two weekends as part of work to widen the A14 Kettering bypass between junctions 7 and 9 in Northamptonshire.

Most site clearance work has been carried out overnight, but the latest involves vegetation chipping using very noisy machinery.

In a bid to mitigate the noise, the Highways Agency will complete the work by closing lane one of the A14 in one direction at a time between Junctions 7 and 9. The closures will take place on Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 10pm on the A14 eastbound only and on March 2-3, westbound only, between 10am and 10pm.

Lane two will remain open for traffic.

The main construction work is expected to start in autumn 2013.

Mike Hall, Highways Agency project manager said: “Most of the work so far has been carried out overnight when traffic flows are lowest. Due to the noise involved in this latest stage of work, it was felt more appropriate for us to avoid the late night and early morning periods so as not to disturb those living nearby.

“Even though we are only closing one lane at a time, we would still advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys.”
